Students are invited to use their medium of choice, with an emphasis on individual interpretation and direction. Classes will include demonstrations using various techniques in watercolor, oil, and drawing mediums. This class is for those interested in getting their feet wet with different mediums or those just wishing to hone their skills while observing how other mediums perform. Students will create numerous subjects of still life, landscape, and landscape figures while working in the studio.

Materials List:

Paper

Windsor Newton, watercolor block, 20 sheets, cold pressed, or sheets of watercolor paper 16 x 20

Please get 100% rag paper its more expensive but worth it. Also buy it online its so much cheaper.

Mixing tray you can find them online either plastic or metal, a good large white plate works as well.

Brushes I would suggest a combination of brushes:

Water Color Brushes: Flat ½ inch to 1 inch, round sizes2,( for detail) 6, 8, & 10, and a fan .Don’t buy cheap brushes , white synthetic are ok to use, but you do not need to get sable brushes at this point.

And again look at what they have online at Dick Blick or ASW art supplies to get an idea what they look like. I use a variety of synthetic round brushes from 4 through 8 or 9. A liner brush is also helpful they are long and thin referred to as riggers. nAnd willm have on hand a ¼ inch flat and ½ inch.

● Hard Pencil 4 H 5H,6 H. The “ H” stands for hard. one or 2,will suffice for now.

● Kneaded Eraser

● Small handheld pencil sharpener

Colors: ( Student grades are fine The Windsor Newton Winton colors are fine)

● Cadmium yellow medium

● Cadmium red medium

● Yellow ochre

● Burnt umber

● Burnt sienna

● Viridian green

● Prussian blue

● Ultramarine blue or French ultramarine blue

● Cobalt blue

● Cerulean blue

● Permanent Alizarin Crimson or Quinacridone red
