Direct Observation Still Life Painting | Morning
Direct Observation Still Life Painting | Morning

This course is optimal for the advanced beginner or intermediate oil painter. (If a student prefers to use acrylic paint, that is acceptable too.) Grounded in a classical foundation from a technical approach, there will be a strong emphasis on form, proportion, value, composition, color, edge resolution, etc. Instruction includes demonstrations on preparing the surface of your canvas, setting up your palette, and using mediums. Color theory, mixing, and methods of realistic painting will also be addressed. Through subject matter, personal and cultural identity, allegory, symbolism and narrative metaphors are some of the motifs we will explore. Though drawing experience is recommended, no one should feel intimidated to sign up. This course will meet you where you are, and provide an encouraging environment in which to learn. Join us!

Materials Info: For the very first class, students can bring a pencil, eraser, and large sketchbook or paper on board.  We will go over supplies during the first class and how to prep a canvas.
