Out of Service

Out of Service is an indie rock outfit from the South Jersey/Philadelphia area. Out of Service is Mike Capuano (vocals), Bryan Williams (guitar), Ken Bond (drums), and Brian McGovern (bass). The band released its first full-length album, Morning, in 2018. Soon after the release, Radio 104.5 Philadelphia selected Out of Service as a top 4 Philly-area band based on the strength of their regional fan base. Building upon this success, the band completed their sophomore effort which dropped in late 2019. The album was mixed by Nathan Hussey (All Get Out). It is a synthesis of the band’s raw emotional energy and indie sensibilities. The first single, “Stories”, features Madeline Finn (Envoi) who blends her soaring vocals to amplify the emotive energy of the song.

At live shows, Out of Service has built a loyal following as the result of their dynamic brand of intensity and musicianship. The band has been booked at some of the most storied Mid-Atlantic venues with acts like Mat Kerekes (Citizen), All Get Out, Shortly, and Valencia.

All Systems Go
All Systems Go is a rock band from Delran, NJ that was formed in July of 2016. The current lineup consists of Matt Pezza (vocals/guitar), Devin Kollmar (vocals/guitar), Dean Mason (bass), and Joe Codispoti (drums). With the well-blending voices of the two vocalists, fiery riffs and solos, jumpy bass lines, lead-style drumming, and high energy on stage, the band creates a sound that has been described as "pop punk, the way you remember it".

Sweep Echo
Sweep Echo are a band from Moutn Laurel, New Jersey.  Known for intimiate performances and a wide range of live dynamics, they're sure to make your evening a little bit spookier than usual.  Their debut EP, I'm Not Afraid of My Shadow, was release in February, 2019.  In October of 2020, the band began recording new music with Matt Weber of A Great Big Pile of Leaves

8/06 Indie Night with Sweep Echo, Birthday Boy. and At Best

8/06 Indie Night with Sweep Echo, Birthday Boy, and At Best
Date: 8/06
Time: 6:00 PM

Sweep Echo
Sweep Echo are a band from Mount Laurel, New Jersey. Known for intimate performances and a wide range of live dynamics, they’re sure to make your evening a little bit spookier than usual.
Their debut EP, I’m Not Afraid of My Shadow, was released in February, 2019. In October of 2020, the band began recording new music with Matt Weber of A Great Big Pile of Leaves.
Birthday Boy
Having originated in the hardcore scene, this four piece masterfully harmonizes raw, heavy-hitting riffs with addictive hooks that command the attention of their audience.

At Best
At Best are a trio of metalheads gone indie. Formed in 2017 in South Jersey, the band features lead vocalist and guitarist Lennon Cantwell, bassist Alicia Dickerson, and drummer Mason Ingling. By combining their various musical backgrounds from past projects, At Best's sound ranges from 90's D.I.Y. nostalgia to heavy-yet-melodic shoegaze. They've been compared to the songwriting and lyrical styles of Elliott Smith, the ferociousness of The Smashing Pumpkins, and having a familiar driving force like the Foo Fighters. Formally known as Burned Out Still Glowing, the trio have toured around the States and play frequent shows in the Philadelphia area. They have played along acts such as In The Presence of Wolves, Old City Revival, Such Gold, Pointless, and Cappadonna (yes, really!). Over the past two years under the new name, they've gone forth with a mission to outperform themselves with every set through their high-energy live shows. At Best have painted their sonic canvas with raw emotion over driving instrumentals, striving to put the human element back into modern music.

1/13 DeCafe Concert feauting The Rob Curto Trio

1/13/2023 DeCafe Concert featuring the Rob Curto Trio.
Start Time: 8pm
Rob Curto, accordion
Rob Curto forges diverse strands of traditional knowledge into a uniquely American style of accordion-driven Roots music. His sound is both elemental and sophisticated; drawing oxygen from his father’s great love of the music of Count Basie and Lester Young, informed by decades spent firing up nightly Brazilian dance parties, and more recently defined by fingers forming detailed melodies that draw from the deep vein of Irish traditional music. Rob is a recipient of the 2023 Traditional Arts Apprenticeship Grant from the Pennsylvania Council for the Arts, which provides funding to further deepen his study of the Irish button accordion alongside his teacher and mentor Billy McComiskey.
Melissa Brun, cello, is a freelance and teaching artist in Phoenixville, PA.  She hosts a private teaching studio of 30 students from her home, teaches at Waldron Mercy Academy, and manages the Chester County Youth Orchestra.  Additionally, Melissa is a String Clinician and Outreach Supervisor for D’Addario Orchestra, where she presents virtual workshops to students and educators about strings, the string-making process, and how to make educated string choices.  Melissa is also a member of the Irish trio Maggie’s Boots, and half of the creative writing team and performer for the children’s music group The Big Idea Committee.  Follow Melissa on social media (FB: Melissa Brun, IG: @CelloGal), or visit her website (www.melissabrun.com) for more information.
Doug Hirlinger is a multidisciplinary artist focused on drum set and vibraphone performance, composition, electronic music creation and creative coding, individually and in multiple combinations.
Doug has performed throughout the United States and Europe with many musicians and ensembles of note. In 2018 Doug completed an artist residency at the Kimmel Center for the Performing Arts, resulting in a 10-piece suite exploring gentrification, inequality, and musical legacy in Philadelphia with collaborators Ursula Rucker, M’Balia Singley, Tim Motzer, and John Swana. In the summer of 2022 Doug was commissioned to write Water Speaks along with Keisha Hutchins Hirlinger by Philadelphia Jazz Project as part of "POOL: A Social History of Segregation", an exhibit at the Philadelphia Water Works. Doug creates electronic music under the name Man From Nowhere.

Billy McComiskey, Irish button accordion, guest artist

“Billy McComiskey is the finest and most influential B/C box player ever to emerge from the US. In that sense, Billy’s place within the transatlantic pantheon of Irish button accordionists is both high and secure, and Outside The Box will only strengthen that judgment.”

– Earle Hitchner, The Wall Street Journal / Irish Echo

Billy McComiskey is a highly regarded player and composer of Irish traditional music. A Brooklyn native, he started studying accordion with the late Sean McGlynn from Galway in his early teens. He won the All-Ireland Senior title in 1986. He formed and played with two legendary trios: Washington DC’s Irish Tradition and the internationally acclaimed Trian. He is known on both sides of the Atlantic as an indefatigable session player, teacher, and promulgator of the music. Recently recognized as a Master Artist through the Pennsylvania Traditional Arts Apprenticeship grant

In addition to Stanford on steel guitar, the quintet is currently comprised of David Streim on the Wurlitzer or Fender Rhodes, Mike Hlatky on upright bass, Fred Berman on drums, and Brennen Ernst on guitar.
